Volunteers from local businesses, non-profit organizations, community groups and families who greet visitors driving through the Tour of Lights serve as Community Hosts. Community Hosts hand out goodie bags which include candy canes, survey cards and pencils. In addition, the Community Hosts collect donations (suggested donation $5 per vehicle) in buckets. The donations collected help to cover the cost of presenting the Tour of Lights each year.
Volunteers serve each night beginning Friday December 1st through Sunday December 31st. Shifts run from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Sundays through Thursdays and 6:00 pm to Midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. On Sunday, December 31st, the last day of the Tour will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A minimum of six volunteers are needed per hour and groups can work in two-to-three-hour shifts.
Participating Clubs or Organization receive recognition with a poster placed at the Tour entrance, listing on the Concho Christmas Celebration website, and a thank-you ad placed in the San Angelo Standard Times. Each individual volunteer will have his or her name entered in a drawing for chance to win $100. Five winners will be picked. Each person will have their name entered in the drawing for every hour they worked, so the more hours, the more opportunity volunteers have to win one of the $100 prizes.
